Dimensions of Wellness

Recently, while doing research for topic ideas, I came across an article about the dimensions of wellness. It made me realize that I didn’t even really think about what wellness is. I just jumped right in. Through reading the article HERE I learned a lot about what wellness is and the different dimensions of it.

Definition of Wellness:

Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making self-directed choices toward a healthier and more fulfilling life. It is an evolving dynamic process of change, growth and achieving one’s fullest potential.  It is the conscious and deliberate development of the whole self.

Wellness is a very intentional act and it is always evolving. If you become stagnant, you become less well.

Dimensions

Emotional Wellness

Emotional wellness is focused on understanding your emotions and working on using them to cope with life. Developing emotional wellness helps you accept your feelings and understand why you might feel a certain way. Once you understand why you feel a certain way, you are able to behave better in response to these feelings.

Intellectual Wellness

Intellectual wellness is focused on growing by increasing knowledge and abilities. The more knowledge you earn, the more well rounded you will be. Intellectual wellness is what helps us grow and become a better person. Knowledge is power, which makes this a very important dimension of wellness.

Occupational Wellness

Occupational wellness is focused on finding joy and purpose in your work. Occupational wellness can be explored in many types of ways from finding joy in your job to finding a new job that brings you joy. Occupational wellness is very important because most of our days are spent at our jobs. You want to be doing something you enjoy and something that gives you fulfillment.

Physical Wellness

Physical wellness is focused on keeping your body in good condition. This dimension of wellness focuses on eating healthy, exercising, and practicing self discipline. This is one of the most important dimensions because if our body is not healthy it’s hard to feel good and get stuff accomplished. Being healthy physically helps our body fight off sickness and affects our mental wellness.

Financial Wellness

Financial wellness is focused on managing finances successfully. The basics required for health require money. Money is important for good health and education. Money management skills are also important because not managing money well is a cause for stress.

Social Wellness

Social wellness is focused on building a healthy support system. It is important to develop good communication skills and develop strong connections. Be yourself when interacting with others and set boundaries. It is also important to be assertive. Romantic connections are also included in this dimension. A healthy sense of social wellness helps because a good support system can help you do well in the other dimensions of wellness.

Environmental Wellness

Environmental wellness is focused on putting yourself in a healthy environment and being in harmony with that environment. If we pay attention to our environment we can learn more about how it affects us. By focusing on our environment we can work on getting to a place that helps improve the other dimensions of wellness.

Spiritual Wellness

Spiritual wellness is focused on getting to know ourselves. By reflecting inward we get to know ourselves and define what our purpose is. Spiritual wellness helps us learn why we do what we do. It allows us to create inner peace and peach with the world around us. This dimension allows us to find ourselves and develop resources to develop the other dimensions of wellness.

In conclusion, all of the dimensions of wellness work in harmony to grow and live a healthy and fulfilling life. Come along with me to continue developing these dimensions on our journey to wellness!

  1. Love this! Hoping to touch on all areas in my own blog too. It’s so interesting which areas we think we need to spend more time on to be “well”, when it’s important to focus on all areas, especially the ones we’ve been neglecting!
